A Sri Lankan couple has been arrested in Chennai, India, on Wednesday (9) for staying in India using fake proofs of identity including Indian passports and Aadhaar cards.
The couple was nabbed by a team of Tamil Nadu ‘Q’ branch sleuths who handed over the two to a central crime branch team for further inquiry.
A Magistrate’s Court remanded the two suspects yesterday (10).
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the suspects had falsified documents to get these identity proofs for their illegal stay in India.
Later, Police inquiries revealed that both suspects are from Jaffna, and that they had migrated to Tamil Nadu as refugees in 1989 after the civil war in Northern parts of Sri Lanka.
